Not a Memorial.
A Way of Life.

This ranch was born from a life lived fully — and it exists so your family can do the same.

"The kind of man who made everyone around him braver."

The Spirit Behind the Ranch

Jonathan didn't just love the outdoors. He lived in them.

Born in Austin, Texas, Jonathan Palmer McDonald was the kind of man who woke up before dawn — not because he had to, but because the fish were biting. He served as a U.S. Army Special Forces Green Beret and 18 Delta medic — the soldier who runs toward the chaos to save lives.

After his military service, Jonathan became a civilian defense contractor. He trained the Designated Defensive Marksman assigned to protect the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan, and taught emergency response teams tactical combat casualty care. When you needed someone calm under fire — literally — Jonathan was the call.

But if you asked his boys, Hayden and Austin, they'd tell you their dad was happiest knee-deep in a creek, teaching them to tie a hook, or pointing out constellations by a campfire. His later career proved it — he worked with a company providing fishing and hunting destinations and long-range marksmanship instruction. The outdoors wasn't Jonathan's hobby. It was his language.

"Still Waters Ranch isn't about looking backward. It's about carrying forward the things Jonathan believed in most — strong families, real connection to each other, and a deep love for the Texas land we're blessed to call home."

Why This Ranch Exists

We didn't build Still Waters Ranch as a tribute. We built it as a continuation. Jonathan's whole life was about bringing people together outdoors — teaching them, protecting them, and making sure they had the skills and confidence to thrive.

That's exactly what this ranch does. Your family comes here to fish, to explore, to watch longhorns graze, to catch fireflies, to tell stories around a campfire. Your kids build the kind of memories they'll tell their kids about.

And every dollar from your stay? It goes directly to charities supporting Gold Star families and veterans. Not a percentage. Not after overhead. Every dollar.

That's the cherry on top. You were already having the time of your life.

Looking Forward

We're starting with four cabins and big dreams. By 2028, we'll have sixteen — each one named after something Jonathan loved about Texas. More cabins means more families making memories, and more support for the heroes and families who've given everything.

Welcome to the ranch. Jonathan would've loved meeting your family.
